And now it is March! Around here (southeastern British Columbia) we had a few weeks of winter back in January with nasty cold temperatures and some snow. That’s all the snow that fell in the valley bottom… until we had a few inches this past week that melted just as quickly. It’s been a super unusual winter here.
Today’s photos were taken at one of our favorite fall/ winter/ spring hikes, where a short channel joins a small, shallow lake to a much larger, deeper one. And a railway trestle goes over the channel. Every time we are there, I am compelled to take a photo of that trestle! So here is one from February. Usually winter “hikes” to this spot involve snowshoes. Not so this year!

I love that picture! So beautiful! It looks like a lovely place to walk.
It’s weird how the weather works. For the last couple of years we had hardly any snow. Now, this year we had several winter storms providing several inches of snow.
Bonnie says
Where I live, we hardly ever see snow. When we do, it’s normally just a flurry. Which is fine with me. I’m not a cold weather person, but I know it’s necessary for the ground to freeze for the farmers to have a good crop in the spring and summer.
Dianne K says
It’s a beautiful picture, and it makes me a little sad that there won’t be many more. It has been an unusually hot summer here, far more so than in the previous few years.
RuthieH says
That is a beautiful picture, I can see why it’s a favourite spot for you.
Weather here in the UK can be summed up as wet! Lots of people have had flooding, so I’m thankful we’ve been spared that, but I would like a day without rain for a change.
Happy Sunday to you all.
Trudy says
Love the picture!! The weather has been different everywhere, another sign of those birth pangs!!
Lori R says
I can’t believe we have not had much snow this year and my flowers will be blooming early. Strange weather.
Natalya Lakhno says
Blizzard! 🥶 raining and snowing..
Spring, where are you?
Joannie Sico says
Yes, this winter has been crazy here in Maine too. It’s been one of our warmest winters we’ve had. We did get a couple snowstorms but then they were followed by rainstorms and caused major flooding all over, but we’ve definitely had more rain than snow and I think we only went below zero maybe once but that was only with wind chills.

nice pic
Laurie Larsen says
Lots of rain and clouds here with an occasional treasure of a sunny day!
Cyndi says

Hugs, Dianne! Last summer was brutally hot here, too.

We’ve had a lot of cloudy, foggy days this winter. Sunshine is a beautiful thing!
Valerie Comer says
So true, Trudy. So true.
Valerie Comer says
It IS strange. Enjoy the good sides of the strangeness!
Valerie Comer says
Just around the corner, they say!!! Take care.
Valerie Comer says
Sounds crazy! I think of Maine as a snowy place in winter.

Thanks, you, too!
Alicia Haney says
Good afternoon, Thank you for sharing your beautiful photo. Here in west Texas we have had the usual weather for this time of year. We will have a really cold day and the next day it will be even hot, but that is west Texas weather for you. No snow here at all this winter, but we have been known to get some in the spring, so who knows. I guess we will just have to take the weather as it comes. Have a great day and a great week.
Valerie Comer says
Taking weather as it comes is all we can do, anyway! We might as well be at peace with it…
Cherie J says
Thanks for sharing the picture. Such a lovely scene. It is already getting to feel like spring here in NW Florida. I am sure we will have an occasional cold snap here and there though, which is fine with me since I like the cooler weather. I am definitely not ready for the summer heat yet.
Bonnie Heringer says
Love the picture. You should publish a book with all of your beautiful pictures. Have a great, blessed week.
Valerie Comer says
I’ve visited your fair state several times in the summer… and I believe you might not be ready for that heat yet!
Valerie Comer says
Aw, thank you! I do make photo books for my family! But that’s it.
Jessica B. says
What a pretty location! Our winter here in southwestern Ohio has also been very mild.
Joannie Sico says
Yes it usually is and I love my cold snowy winters so this one was crazy and a little sad.
Angeline says
Congratulations to the winners! The weather has been so strange here. We have had some sunshine and then it starts storming again.
Valerie Comer says
We love it here! But I’m sure it is beautiful where you live, too.
Valerie Comer says
It’s on and off sunshine and snow here today. But the snow isn’t much of anything…
Debra Pruss says
Stunning photo. Thank you so much for sharing. We have had an unusual winter also. We have had more rain than snow. God bless you. Congratulations to this week’s winners.
Valerie Comer says
At least you don’t have to shovel rain, right?!? Have a great week.
Elizabeth Litton says
Looking forward to another great week!
Valerie Comer says
Thank you!
Kendra Muonio says
It doesn’t know if it wants to be spring or winter still been having snow and rain on and off yesterday had to ride with brother to church because of snow my car is no good in cold weather. I’m ready for warmer weather.
Valerie Comer says
Warmer weather is on its way! Unless you live in the southern hemisphere. Then, not so much. ;)
Megan says
It’s been a weird winter here in the Midwest too. We had a very mild February, which is unusual for us.
Valerie Comer says
Here, too! But it wants to be winter now!
Cindi Knowles says
I live in Atlanta GA, and the weather changes every day and throughout the day. We have low temperatures one day, then it’s raining, in the 60s the next or between it all in one day.
When it’s like that I start inside bcz I have respiratory issues and I’d get very ill.
Valerie Comer says
I’m sorry the weather affects you so much!!! Where I grew up, we used to say if you don’t like the weather, wait ten minutes or walk across the street.
Nancy says
Thanks for the update.
Valerie Comer says
Thanks for stopping by, Nancy!
