Welcome to winter driving! My hubby and I spent a few days watching our daughter’s three girls earlier this week. While the valley bottoms are snow-free, the same isn’t true of the mountain passes! We were actually very happy to see so much snow along the roads on the heights. Snow came late up there, but at least it came. Every little bit of moisture is helpful there as we “look forward” to this year’s wildfire season and pray it won’t be anything like 2023’s.

Our daughter’s family lives near the river, close enough to easily walk down. The first afternoon Grandpa and I went with the 12yo and 7yo, but after that the 12yo and I went without them! I’m sure glad we can step in and help out our kids’ families when it’s needed! And they do the same for us.
It occurs to me that folks who’ve read my Riverbend series might be interested to know that this is the river (and town) I patterned Riverbend around.

As one of the lucky winners, thank you to all of the Inspy authors!!! Congratulations to the other winners, too! I LOVE your pictures!! You’re going to need to start posting some of them in your FB group, so we can keep enjoying them!!! You’re making the best memories with your grands!!!! My maternal grandparents passed away when I was four and five, so I have very vague memories of them, and I never knew my paternal grandmother. I do have memories of my paternal grandfather, though there aren’t many of those, either, as we didn’t live close to him and didn’t see him much when we’d go to visit other relatives. I found this blog thanks to Autumn MacArthur, about 8 or 9 years ago, and I’ve loved it every day since!! Looking forward to more books by ALL of you!!!
Valerie Comer says
Thank you so much for your kind comments, and I hope you enjoy your prize :)
Valerie Comer says
I hope you enjoy your prize, Alicia! Having grands nearby is amazing, isn’t it! Our son’s family (with a 11yo and a 2yo) lives right next door, and our daughter’s family (with a 14, a 12, and a 7) live less than two hours away… but in winter, with two mountain passes between, it seems a lot further!
Hope you have a great week.
Valerie Comer says
Congrats, Trudy! And we’re so thankful you’ve been part of our community for so long. We have missed Autumn since she left us!
My dad’s parents passed away when he was young, and I only have a couple of vague memories of my mom’s dad, who died when I was about seven. My mom’s mom lived to 93, though, and enjoyed knowing my kids when they were young, so that was a treasure! I love being present in my grandkids’ lives.
RuthieH says
Congratulations to all the winners!
That sounds a lovely time with your granddaughters Valerie. The snow on the road looks beautiful but I don’t envy you driving in it – we get so little snow here in the UK everything grinds to a halt when we do so I have no idea how to drive in snow.
A happy Sunday to you all.
Valerie Comer says
Hey Ruthie! I can drive in snow but I don’t love it. It doesn’t faze my hubby at all!
Debra Pruss says
