Here in the United States, we celebrate Memorial Day on Monday. There are three separate days that tend to get a bit confused:
- Memorial Day (last Monday in May): Those who gave all
- Veteran’s Day (November 11, coincides with Armistice Day/Remeberence Day in honor of WWI’s cease fire): Those who have served
- Armed Forces Day (third Saturday in May): Those who currently serve
The US isn’t the only “land of the free,” of course, but the “brave” around the world, standing in the gap to make sure all of us remain free have always held a special place in my heart. From the bottom of my heart, and thee hearts of my family, thank you to the families of those who gave all. Their sacrifice, and yours – both here and abroad – is not forgotten.
Around here this week… I’m doing better, but not great. Still have a nasty (allergy related) cough but I did sleep in my own bed last night! (As opposed to the couch so my hubs could rest without me bothering him.) I also did a photo shoot at our local pool for the cover of my next release!! It was even better because I got to hang out with a couple of my favorite guards for a little while! The cover is already posted over on my Facebook page and I kinda love it! I’ll post some behind the scenes stuff at some point :D. Technically, the pool opened today but it was cool and I’m sure the water was too cold to swim (it certainly was when I was there Thursday for the photo shoot)! I’m hopeful we’ll get to go sometime this weekend but… We’ll see :).
And in keeping with the InspyRomance theme – happy 18th anniversary to my husband! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long! (The rest of you promise not to laugh at the picture below. :p)
What about you? How’s your week been? Is it warming up where you are? Or cooling down? Or just perfect?

So glad that you are doing better, Carol! I can tell with your wonderful post today, so enjoyed reading it. Thank you for clearing up the military holiday’s, I didn’t realize that Armed Forces day was for those who are currently serving. I thought it was for all…past or present! I hope we all remember those who gave their lives for our country this Memorial Day! My grandfather served in WW2 in the Army over in Germany. He survived but earned several medals and the purple heart. Though I don’t recall why or how he was injured. I never got to know him as I was only a year old when he did pass on. I’ve just heard all the stories of him when I was growing up. My grandma and him loved each other very much and I’ve seen the old love letters passed back and forth when he was overseas. Such a legacy!
Happy 18th wedding anniversary to you and your husband! We celebrated our 18th this year too (April 5th). I think it gets better every year! And I, for one, love that wedding picture, Carol :-) Here’s to many more for you both as you serve the Lord and each other!
I sure wished we had the UPtv channel so I can watch “Love Finds you in Charm”. It sounds like a wonderful movie! But Annalisa said it would probably be out on DVD, so I will definitely be on the lookout for it. I watched the trailer, and it really looks like one I don’t want to miss! I’m a sucker for a good romance….movie or book wise :-)
Thanks for the update on how you are doing, so glad that you finally got to sleep in your own bed…doesn’t that feel good? Will continue to pray for God’s healing touch on your life! Looking forward to another week of great posts! Seems like each week goes by faster than the last one….blessings, Carol, to you and yours!
I never knew the specific reason why we celebrate each of those three holidays – thank you! My father was a vet, my husband and son are vets too. It’s nice to see them getting recognition for the hardest job a man can ever be asked to do.
I too love your wedding photo and wish you a Happy Anniversary!
