At the start of December, Valerie mentioned that the administration team here was going to give Carol a well-earned break from doing all the Sunday editions and, thus, I get to spend Sundays in January with you!
I put the picture above together because I’m dreaming of the weather actually going ahead and deciding that yes, it’s going to be winter. Today at least it’s in the low 40s, so I’m starting to feel like there’s a teeny tiny possibility of that. But we spent Christmas and New Year’s in short sleeves with the Air Conditioner on and that just is simply not a typical Virginia December! I’m ready for cold and all the fun that brings (sweaters! sweatshirts! thick socks! flannel jammies!)
Are you getting the winter you wanted? (And is it the same as you usually get where you live?)
(I don’t think you can say Happy New Year too many times, do you?)

I live in Central Ohio, and no, we haven’t had the winter I want. Normally by now we have inches of snow on the ground, or maybe even a foot! I have yet to see one snowflake! As a matter of fact, it’s just now starting to get a little cold. A few weeks ago I found a couple of dandelions and my rose bush was starting to turn green. I bought most of my granddaughters snow boots for Christmas, and also a really cute pair for myself. Now…….bring on the snow!! ?❄⛄❄⛄?
I live in SW Michigan. The last few winters were brutal – 10 feet of snow and below zero temperatures. This December temperatures were in the forties and even up to sixty. We had a green Christmas, but had an ice storm with high winds on Monday December 28. Most of the area was without power for at least six hours, some had no power for 2 days. We now have a dusting of snow on the ground, with more expected today and twenty degree temps.
Personally I am glad for a mild winter. My prayers are with the residents in St. Louis, Missouri and those living along the mighty Mississippi River and it contributories. Having visited Hannibal, Missouri and the boyhood home of Mark Twain, as I watch a house floating down the Mississippi River I think of Huck Finn. Such an unusual winter with high temps causing destruction. Prayers with those who lost all.
Best wishes Elizabeth Maddrey on your new endeavor with the Sunday blog. Happy New Year!
Like you, we spent Christmas in shorts and tee-shirts here in Charlotte, NC. Yesterday, our temperatures dropped significantly, so out came the sweaters. Although I’m not a cold weather gal, I knew it was coming.
I didn’t realize you lived in Virginia, Elizabeth. I grew up in Fairfax County. Although I miss the area, I don’t miss the traffic. :)
Here in Newport VA, right outside of Blacksburg, it has been in the 40’s. I am beyond ready for snow and snowballs and snowmen!! I am ready for Winter! Happy New Year! I am praying for a great year!
Happy Sunday, Elizabeth! I could have taken your blog’s cover photo. In fact, I took some almost exactly like it with our mountain ash tree just yesterday! After a very mild and virtually snow-free winter last year (and a dry spring and a bad fire season over the summer) we’re having a fairly normal winter for southeastern British Columbia, Canada. I don’t think it got above -18C yesterday (about zero F). Bright and cold. Flannel is in full swing!
Same in SW Michigan. We have snow warnings today. Wearing my flannel shirt. Valerie I signed up to see when there are new comments. Thanks for the suggestion and Happy Sunday.
Here in Montana, we had a white Christmas. It has been cold(negative and single digit temps), but sunny. The winter here has been normal for Montana.
We woke up to our first snow this morning! Sadly it is turning to freezing rain right now. But it was fun to take a walk in it early this morning before daylight. There is nothing like untouched snow. :)
Love the picture you created at the top. Very pretty. :)
I think we are having the same weather!
Thanks, Renate! I think in your situation I’d be happy with mild too!
Small world! I grew up in Annandale :) I’m south of there now, but the traffic is worse each year.
I’m praying for snow with you, Sally!
Gosh, I bet that’s pretty, Val! We are in the 50s today, I’ll take it.
Maybe I should move to Montana :)
Thanks, Kim. I love that first walk in the snow.
Mechanicsville VA is starting to have some cooler temperatures. We are usually cold by now. But, this has been a very warm winter so far. The sun is finally shining today, with temp of 55 right now. Hubby bought a snow shovel last weekend. We are sure that we will have to use that snow shovel at some point this winter. :-) Happy New Year!
Sounds about like it is here. On the positive side, my husband took our Christmas decorations down today so it was nice to be able to do that without needing a big coat and hat.
It’s been colder than normal here in southern AZ. The last two winters have been so mild that it was like not having winter at all. I miss that. I’m not a cold weather fan. Today is a mild day, but the cold is coming back tomorrow. I think it’s warmer outside than it is inside today. I think I should go sit in the sun to warm up.
I have a friend in West Texas who was posting photos of all his snow. There is something wrong about Texas and Arizona having all my winter weather! ;) Hope it warms up for you a little, Merrillee — send it our way!
Happy New Year from CA where it is cold for us this time of year!
Yay! I had a great Sunday, though no flannels for me :)
The weather on the Oregon coast is finally getting to it’s normal (almost!). We’ve had plenty of rain (normal) but the temps haven’t been very cold. Seems with the New Year, they are finally getting down there….40’s during the day and just above freezing at night. We had our share of winter storms early in November, with lots of high wind/heavy rain. I kind of miss that :-) Nothing like hunkering down in your house waiting for it to pass.
Happy New Year Elizabeth! I’m happy that we’ll get to see new faces on Sunday for each new month. How fun! Congrats to the winners! Here’s looking forward to what God will do in 2016 :-)
