Happy Sunday!
I have no idea how it’s time for us to be doing Sunday Edition again already. I mean seriously, wasn’t it Sunday just last week? This past week was crazy busy around my house and I can’t put my finger exactly on why, but when I look at the calendar for this week…y’all, there’s something going on every single night this week. (I know this is the norm for many of you, but as a homeschooler, I have these delusions that we’ll do all our activities during the day and avoid the night madness. Ha!)
My eldest (who’s 8) had his first basketball game yesterday. It was fun and yet hard to watch at points. None of the kids have played before, so it’s more of a teaching experience than anything (and I love that the coaches and refs do a lot of teaching during the game – if they blow the whistle, there’s a good 30 second explanation about what was wrong, how to avoid it, and what happens next. So cool to see.) More than that, the league is a Christian one, so they’re really focused on teaching Christ-like sportsmanship etc. as well. It’s not all just win win, hustle hustle. Makes my heart happy to see.

I know what you mean, Elizabeth. When I look at the calendar and see we’re more than half way through January, I ask how?
Happy Sunday!

I spent yesterday at my daughter’s gymnastics meet. It’s YMCA, and we have wonderful coaches, so there is a lot of hugging and good teaching going on there, too. Especially when daughter falls three times on her beam routine! Both teammates and coaches provided comfort (Mom isn’t allowed to, at least in front of other people–she’s fourteen, after all!).
Valerie Comer says
Thanks for doing the Sunday Edition! Eight-year-olds playing basketball. What fun!
Sally Shupe says
Great Sunday edition!! We got a smattering of snow this morning! Just enough to see, not enough to make a snowman, unfortunately. Hope you all are having an awesome weekend!!

I am just getting used to writing 2016. Wow, that happens every year! Time flies. We have a little snow here today in VA. Flurries have turned into big snow flakes, but, luckily, it’s not sticking on the roads. :-)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I’m so glad it’s not just me, Jill! :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
That’s great, Lee (well, not the part about being too cool for mom hugs, I’m dreading that myself. — but it’s still good that her coaches and teammates are all there for her.)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Hilarity did ensue. It’s good they don’t keep score at this level :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
We’ve had a few flurries off and on. Just not enough to cancel Awana tonight, which is what I was hoping for. (Shh, don’t tell anyone.)

I’m doing better with remembering the year change this year, which is kind of amazing to me. Usually it’s March before I get it right consistently!

Our youngest daughter just returned from a medical missions to west Africa,, and has to return to college tomorrow, so we’re debriefing. And then packing and ordering books for her last semester of nursing. Time does fly. They grow up quickly.

Little kids’ basketball is so much fun! I think the youngest I’ve watched is 10-year-olds. My sister was 10 when she started. I’m hoping to go home to KS in a couple months to watch her play in her senior season at the National Division II Christian Homeschool tournament.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Oh wow, what a fast turn around! I’m glad you get a little debreif in the turn around time.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
What fun, Katy! I hope you’re able to get home to see it!
Trixi says
Happy Sunday Elizabeth! I agree with you, how is it Sunday already?? Seems January is flying by too fast, last year was a blur too!
Great to hear your son’s basketball team is not only playing the sport, but teaching HOW to play :-) I remember in school having to do all types of sports for PE, but since I never understood most of the games (basketball, baseball, flag football, etc), I was HORRIBLE at them. Not only that, I hated every minute of it!! Maybe if the teacher had taken some time to explain the game (I mean really, do they EXPECT the kids to just KNOW?), I might have been okay with them. Sounds like your son will have some fun with it & learn Christ-like sportsmanship too! That’s an added bonus :-)
Another great week too look forward to here at Inspy Romance, but then again, they all are! Blessings on your (very busy) week :-)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Trixi I’m right there with you on sports! I’m glad to see him getting the chance to learn. Thanks for swinging by and making InspyRomance part of your Sunday!
Linda Herold says
I wonder how many years of boy’s basketball you have ahead of you? My son started in elementary school with school teams and travel teams and played 4 years in high school! I enjoyed it! I even ended up being the team scorekeeper! Just this month my son and I attended a Sacramento Kings/Golden State Warriors basketball game! What a fun time having him all to myself!! I hope your basketball experience continues to be a good one!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I wonder that, too, Linda! He’s tried a number of sports so far and none has lasted more than two seasons. But if he shows an interest beyond that, I’m happy to support him in it.
Sounds like you had a really fun time with your son, those are definitely precious memories.
