Greetings from the cold and icy clutches of winter storm Jonas! I have finally gotten my snow, and it is a beautiful, beautiful thing. As of right now, we have about 20 inches and it’s still coming down hard (and blowing into drifts, so measuring it has been a challenge. But really, it’s a lot of snow, that’s all that matters!) As a bonus, I’m too old and my kids are too young to have ever been into the Jonas Brothers, so the storm name doesn’t have any boy-band associations around here. (Now, if it was winter storm Hanson, that’d be another story. Mmm. Bop.)
Given the blizzard, we’ve been hunkered down inside with a few breaks here and there to brave the windy cold to shovel and frolic and then head back in for lots of hot chocolate and book reading. (Okay, okay, the boys have been playing Xbox more than reading. But reading will happen for them, too.)
These two photos on the left are our deck and then looking down into our back yard (the fence is 6′ high, so you can see it’s up past the first 2′ rail.)
Anyway, there’s great rejoicing from the kids and as we don’t have anywhere that we need to go, the grown ups don’t mind so much either.

Elizabeth, I love the snow pictures :) We’re in the middle of summer and it rarely snows where I live. The blizzard news reports I’ve seen are scary, and I’m praying you all stay safe.

Oh what I wouldn’t give to get a nice deep snow this year! :) We still have time and there is still hope! The pictures are beautiful! Enjoy! :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
We are safe and sound, thanks Narelle, for the prayers — we didn’t even lose power as a few in the area did (where the lines are still above ground. Generally the power lines are buried around here.) Glad you enjoyed the photos to cool off your summer :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
There’s definitely still time, Rachelle! Hopefully you’ll get a good snow or two.

In my part of SC we got the very southern edge of the storm….and it’s supposed to get up to 50 today. =) I would probably enjoy a snow that would stay around for a while but I can’t say I mind warmer weather either. Hope you guys enjoy yours and glad you still have power!
Valerie Comer says
While you out East are getting this huge dump of snow, it’s been raining in SE British Columbia. We still have snow, as we had a fair bit before the rain started, but it’s sure not pretty and fluffy anymore! But it’s still January. We definitely can get snow for a few more weeks.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Snow in SC is always a big event! We lived in Columbia for three years and the little dusting we got once shut everyone down :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Ooh, rain on top of snow just makes ice around here (and I’m guessing there, too, science being what it is :) ) stay dry and safe :)
Jill Weatherholt says
Beautiful photos, Elizabeth. Since moving from the DC area to Charlotte, I haven’t seen that much snow. We had sleet and freezing rain on Friday and Saturday. Today, it’s sunny and hopefully melting for my morning commute. :) Enjoy!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Jill – since you used to live up here, you know they’ve already shut everything down through Tuesday at least :) Hope your roads are nice and dry tomorrow morning!

We have big snow here in Mechanicsville VA. Today, we are very thankful that the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Hubby and I will stay inside. We don’t play in the snow like in the past. We are content to stay inside. Hubby has shoved the driveway a little bit and I think that is due to “cabin fever”. haha! Stay safe everyone.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I am all for staying inside and being warm! :)
Narelle Atkins says
I’m glad to hear all is well and you didn’t lose power.
Julianne Archer says
Glad you haven’t lost power! My husband would take the 20 inches anyday – he loves to snowmobile.
Stay safe and warm.
Shelia Hall says
Glad you did not lose power and can spend quality time with family
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I’ve never actually snowmobiled. But it always looks fun. :)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Thanks, Sheila!

Happy Sunday Elizabeth!! But you can keep the snow your way….lol!! I grew up in Illinois & we’ve had our share of winter storm (snow or ice). Ice storms are very scary however. One year we had it so bad that it coated the trees with 2-3 inches and they were cracking and falling down on the roads. What a mess it was to clean up once it melted! And then you put snow on top of that and it makes for dangerous driving, yikes! I’m so glad that we live on the Oregon coast were we rarely get any snow, just rain! Though too much of that & we do tend to flood in some areas.
Looking forward to another fabulous week here on Inspy Romance :-)
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Yikes! That sounds like a crazy ice storm – we’ve had a few of those, and you’re right, they’re nasty. :)

I have lived in Northern CA my whole life! I don’t know how people deal with driving in the snow!! Don’t get me wrong, I think snow is beautiful! Stay safe!!
Elizabeth Maddrey says
Most of the folks around here can’t drive in it – so I just stay home :)
