Hello out there! I hope y’all have had a terrific week! Mine’s been decent – nothing overwhelmingly fantastic, but nothing bad either ;). That’s always nice. My husband had Monday off which was nice. The kids didn’t (snow make up day) which was also kind of nice – just the two of us! We did lunch!
I’m also learning how to write faster! Hopefully… I’ve had DragonDictation for a while and have used it some. A friend told me that rather than using it directly on her computer, she talks into a recorder then has Dragon transcribe it. She can write a whole chapter in about half an hour that way (she does plan the chapter ahead of time; it’s not off the cuff).
In fact, as I’m typing this, I’m waiting for my first real attempt to send from my phone to my computer to see how it went. I’ve done this a little before, but mostly while sitting in the car waiting on someone or something – just a few minutes at a time. If I can get this to work like she does? Oh my! That could be so good for my production! Fingers crossed it works for me – because we all know there’s no one size fits all solution to anything!
(Update: in about 20 minutes of recording, including all the pauses while I thought of what to say next, and after editing the stuff where I changed my wording mid-sentence and edited a bit for clarity, etc. – I “wrote” about 1050 words in those 20 minutes… Add about 10 minutes of editing time (if that much), and I think I like this plan ;))
What about you? Do you have some technology that you’re learning or want to learn that could make you more productive at whatever?
This is what’s been going on around here this week…

OOh, how cool, to get so many words out so quickly… hope it keeps working for you! I am loving a software program we use at school- I can do SO MUCH in it, from marking class rolls, to marks book, to setting up chat forums for each class, students can turn their work in, I can give quick feedback…it is great. I just have to keep learning how to use all the functions so it becomes intuitive!
Blessings and happy dictating:)

Hi Carol! Sounds great and I hope this program helps you achieve your daily writing goals.
One of the things being retired from teaching are the professional development days where we learned how to use new technology and programs. Now my husband and I learn to use this through our children and grandchildren. In March we updated to iPhone 6s. For Christmas I received a iPad Pro. Our oldest son works for an international company and together we figure out new gadgets and programs. Our youngest son has been a gamer and so he knows the latest programs there. Our oldest grandson was surprised what is Opa (grandpa) knew about a game program he uses. Even in retirement, we are trying to keep informed and our minds activities.
The most difficult electronics are in our newer vehicles. One has to have the car running to use bluetooth, Siri, or other programs; but it isn’t safe to do so while driving. Yesterday we went on a road trip and I drove my husband’s car, so he could experiment how is phone interacted with the car’s electronics. This is an area our sons can’t help us with. We all drive different vehicles.

Glad the dictation seems to be going well!! I’m getting ready to jump into parenting (trying not to add too much else new right now!), but rather than learning myself I was recently teaching my work replacement about some great technology. It was fun to see her amazed by some of the cool features we had available.

I’m so excited for you, Tracey! Congratulations!

I have been wondering about DragonDictation. I will have to find out more about that program. :-)

We tried Dragon many moons ago for our son. He didn’t care for it, but I’m so glad it is working for you (especially since I benefit)! Have a great week :)

We’re trying to find a reasonably priced 8 inch tablet for my reading. Somehow I keep running out of room on my 8gb nook?! I keep putting things in the cloud to keep it working. My husband keeps giving me reports on what he’s found?. I use both kindle and nook apps so it needs to do both. I don’t play games,so it doesn’t need to do that. Thanks for writing so I can fill up my tablet!
