Today marks my oldest child’s 27th year. It does NOT seem like “I” am that old. LOL He’s a great kid (man, I guess) even if we don’t always see eye to eye on things. :)
The above picture is another scene from Switzerland. I’m not sure when or where I took it, but it’s a sunset over the mountains.
This week, the US celebrates Thanksgiving Day. Mostly, it’s a day for families to get together and eat until they can’t eat any more and then veg out in front of the TV watching football or maybe play a few board games.
I’ll cook a turkey, probably a 20+ pound bird, make mashed potatoes (from real spuds), green bean casserole (a fave of my hubby’s), and then throw in a few other sides and a couple of desserts. I hope to talk my daughter into making a low-carb cheesecake, so I can have dessert too.
What’s your Thanksgiving Day look like? What’s a favorite/traditional dish you serve at your house (or wherever you go)?

Hi Ginger, don’t worry, only the kids get older in age, we mums just pick an age and freeze right there!! Hehe, if only!
We don’t do Thanksgiving here in Australia so holiday favourites are what we would have at Christmas. We spent the evening with friends who are experimenting with a new smoker on their barbecue and decided to host an ‘American’ themed dinner- he smoked a brisket, we had American potato salad, and even managed to find goldfish biscuit/crackers (have to say they were not a favourite!!) Something different for us!
Blessings:)

No Thanksgiving Day with *Turkey Dinner* in Germany, although there is a Sunday in September where the altar is decorated with produce at the church, like so https://photos.app.goo.gl/6739w4W5GNsB4ggEA.
I was invited to join friends from Church while there were stationed here some years ago and I really liked the pumpkin pie!

Hi Ginger! Happy Birthday to your daughter. Oh to stay young. Hubby teases that he is only 39. Grandkids laugh knowing their dad is already 40. Thanks again for sharing your picture of Switzerland. May need to visit New Glarus, Wisconsin, a Midwesterner Swiss community which was founded by Swiss settlers in 1845; therefore no passport or long flight required. After hosting Thanksgiving for 30 years while my parents were alive and my sons lived at home, now with no fur babies or grandchildren to care for, hubby and I are taking a five day vacation. While I am nostalgic about not having the whole family together, I know this decision is less stressful on my two wonderful daughter-in-laws so they can visit with their families and my sons who have had a stressful fall. Will let somebody else cook Thanksgiving dinner this year. I will miss the leftovers. Favorite dishes are turkey with an old world giblet and mushroom bread stuffing handed down three generations, mashed potatoes and gravy, veggies, salad, rolls, pumpkin and apple pie with lots of fresh whipped cream. Of course the grandkids love when their beloved Oma squirts canned whipped cream directly into their mouths. The kids’ daddies say I spoil them rotten. Best wishes. Happy Thanksgiving – enjoy the day with family.

Just wait til your youngest is 27 and your oldest is 46! We hope to get all four of them together for the first time in 10 years . When our daughter’s oldest was a baby. Now she has four, baby is 8 months already. We will gather at out #2son’s new house out in the woods. They have 2 boys. There will be 14 of us.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I love pumpkin pie! When I was young, I didn’t like regular breakfast items, so my mom would let me eat leftover pie for breakfast :-)
Ginger Solomon says
Haha, Wemble. Goldfish is not something we usually eat with our meal. They’re a good snack.
My husband smokes brisquet but usually those are during summer, which is when Christmas is for you. LOL
And I’m all for not growing older. :D
Ginger Solomon says
Sadly, I couldn’t see the photo, so I’ll have to imagine it.
I’m fond of Pumpkin Pie, but no one else in my family is, so we stick with Pecan Pie or Turtle Pie.
Now the Pumpkin spice craze is just CRAZY!
Ginger Solomon says
Oh, my hubby would love to go on a cruise or something, but all my kids still live in the area, and for now, I want to have them together when I can. Eventually, they’ll have spouses and we’ll juggle the holidays and may, like you, just tell them to spend it with their in-laws.
Enjoy your time away and your cooked-by-other-people Thanksgiving dinner.
Ginger Solomon says
Awww, thanks, Paula Marie.

I’m looking forward to the grandkids, but not someone moving away. I’ve told each of them that they’re not allowed to move more than 90 minutes from me. Of course, I know that is just a dream on my part. Since there are seven of them, at least one will move away. :(
There will be 13 of us this year. My family and another couple whose children can’t come home this year. I’m looking forward to it. :)
Ginger Solomon says
That sounds yummy. I love Pumpkin pie. Having it for breakfast sounds delightful.
Jessica B. says
My family goes to a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner so no cooking for us. But we may make some popcorn to eat while watching a movie that evening. My favorite traditional dish is sweet potato casserole.
Ginger Solomon says
Dinner out seems to be getting more popular. Do you have a particular type of movie you watch?
Jessica B. says
A Christmas Story. It has become a family favorite.

Can we stop the time… My oldest is turning 15 in February and just yesterday he was a baby!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Be blessed!!!
Ginger Solomon says
I know, right? My BABY is going to be 15 in a few short months. In Alabama, that means he gets to DRIVE (with an adult). How is it possible?
Natalya Lakhno says
No no no, I cannot even think about it….
Ginger Solomon says
Me either. It’s hard. Bittersweet, really. We struggle for so long when they’re little to teach them, and then they grow up and use what we’ve taught. It’s awesome to see my adult children following God and fulfilling His plans for their lives, but it also means that they don’t need Momma anymore. Definitely bittersweet.
But it’s a new season, a new chapter in my life. Now Momma gets to do other things. :)
Sharon Quillman says
No matter how big they become they will always be kids to us. :)
Ginger Solomon says
So true, Sharon.
