It’s the first week of NanoWrimo. If you don’t know what that it is, it means National Novel Writing Month. A bunch of CRAZY writers get together, figuratively, and aim to write the month away. If a writer does it the normal way (which I’m not), their minimum number of words for the 30 days of November is 50,000. I am doing it as a teacher this year (with my homeschool co-op), so my minimum is 30,000.
As of the typing of this post, 10am Saturday morning, I have 1275 words written. I have started the month behind. :( I hope to get thousands more written today, but I knew (and it’s happened before, so it’s not just a supposition) that if I didn’t write this post while I was thinking about it—and pondering where to go in my story—that I would forget and someone else would have to take up my slack. Again.
So here I am. I apologize for the succinctness of this post, but y’all don’t want to hear from me anyway. LOL
BUT for those who like pictures from vacations, like Valerie shared last month, here’s one from my trip to Switzerland last month. :)

Wemble says
Hi Ginger, prayers that you get lots of writing done (cos I look forward to reading more stories from you:) What a wonderful holiday destination…thanks for sharing your photo.
Blessings:)
PS, always enjoy hearing from you:)
Paula Marie says
Hi, Ginger! Best of luck with the writing! I love your photo from Switzerland! Also, just so you know, I always look forward to your posts!!
Valerie Comer says
I’d love to see lots of Switzerland photos this month!!!!
For those who are wondering what 50,000 words “means,” it’s almost the length of a Love Inspired romance. I write that length (53,000-55,000 words), too, and so do some other Inspy Romance authors. This means I’m planning to write my next Urban Farm Fresh Romance during November. So far, I’m a bit ahead of the curve, but the curve will probably catch up to me over the next few days when hubby’s home from work!
Happy NaNoing, Ginger, and any other IR authors who’ve accepted the challenge!
Diana says
Thanks for the wonderful, majestic, inspiring photo of the Swiss mountains. My grandmother was born in Swiss mountains, grew up in France and immigrated to the US in her early 20s by herself. So it was special for me to see the photo. I know what you mean about doing something when you think of it or forgetting entirely. Thank you for explaining NaNo month for us songwriters!
Diana says
Sorry that was supposed to be non writers. Auto correct changed it to song writer, which I’m not.
Diana says
Thanks for explanation of length. I’m always wondering what the translation is. God bless you all with strength and peace!
SARAH TAYLOR says
Thank you so much Ginger for The beautiful picture I love picture like this and Good Luck on your writing you go Lady! We as readers are so pleased with Authors Like you and all The rest!
Ginger Solomon says
Thanks, Wemble.
Ginger Solomon says
Haha, I’m laughing because I had to go back to my post and figure out what I said. Both you and Wemble mentioned liking to hear from me. It was said more tongue in cheek than anything — because y’all wanna know who won. LOL
Thanks for the encouragement.
Ginger Solomon says
Thanks for explaining, Valerie. I forget that most readers, of which I used to be one, have no clue about the length of novels.
As further explanation…
Novellas – 25,000-40,000 words
Short Novels (Love Inspired and the like) – 40,000-60,000 words
Novels – 60,000 – 100,000 (I think)
Epic novels – 100,000+
Happy Nano’ing to you, Val.
Ginger Solomon says
Thanks, Diane.

More photos to come later, Diane.
When researching for my time in Switzerland, I looked up their language. Mostly it’s English, but they have three “national” languages, depending upon where in Switzerland you go. Closer to Germany, it’s German. Closer to France, French, And closer to Italy, it’s Italian. :)
Ginger Solomon says
Thanks, Sarah. More Swiss pictures to come. Stay tuned.
Arletta says
YES! Share more Switzerland pictures. I’d love to go.
I’m not a writer but it seems to me like having a deadline to write to would make it seem like a chore and make it not enjoyable for me. Hope you meet your goal!
Natalya Lakhno says
Ginger, thank you and blessings with writing! Looking forward to another great week!
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
I’m not officially signed in with Nano, but I’m planning to see how much I can get written this month.
Ginger Solomon says
Having a deadline sometimes feel chore-like, but I need the accountability. And it’s fun to see if I CAN do it. It’s more of a way to push ourselves past what is normal. :) Mental exercise, if you will.
I have more pics to share, so keep coming back on Sundays in November. :)
Ginger Solomon says
Back at ya, Natalya.
Ginger Solomon says
I do that sometimes, too, Shannon. I’m only doing it this time because of my class at school. November is super busy for us — two birthdays, though both of them are grown and have moved out, and Thanksgiving. I wish Nano were some other month, but there would still be STUFF to deal with. :)
Jessica B. says
How beautiful! I would love to visit Switzerland sometime.
