Today is the release day for The 80s Rom-Com Club collection! Every book birthday is fun, but there’s something especially thrilling when I get to share the day with five other contemporary romance authors! Add in 1980s nostalgia, movies, and getting to include YOU, and we’ve got ourselves a party!
This collection includes novellas by myself, fellow Inspy Romance author Jaycee Weaver, as well as Mikal Dawn, Bell Renshaw (Emilie Haney), Jennifer Rodewald, and Betsy St. Amant. They each tell contemporary love stories loosely inspired by some of the 80s best romantic comedy blockbusters. In addition, each heroine in our novellas is also part of an online 80s rom-com lovers club. As they gush over and watch their favorite movies together, they’ve forged friendships and get to watch each other fall in love with some swoony leading men.
What do you love most about classic rom-coms? Maybe it’s the witty banter that makes you chuckle, the mix of angst and happy endings, or the perfectly cheesy romantic lines and kisses. Whatever it is for you, I’m sure you’ll find all those things within our fun set.
Here’s a little more about each novella and the movies that inspired us. If you’ve watched any of these 1980s hits, you’ll love The 80s Rom-Com Club!
The Fix Up by Mikal Dawn | Inspired by The Money Pit
Henley Morris and Not-the-Movie-Star Brad Pitt are teamed up on a home renovation show with tools, limited time, and a budget. The home they’re assigned to renovate is a money “pitt” and they’re sure it’s out to get them. So is the general contractor. And don’t even get them started on the family of squirrels living in it…
Falling For a Price by Bell Renshaw (Emilie Haney) | Inspired by Romancing the Stone
Amie Lewis prefers writing about the escapades of others, but when a mysterious note arrives, it’s time to start her own adventure. Hiring Malcom Price, a handsome but obnoxious guide, is her first mistake. Being caught in the middle of his feud with Russian treasure hunters is the second. The third? Falling for him.
Lakeshore Wandering by Jennifer Rodewald | Inspired by Overboard
Hazel Wallace is working on a plan to keep her peaceful, remote life. When Bennet Crofton shows up pretending to be something he’s not, she knows she’s running out of time. Luckily for her, he hit his head and can’t remember a thing. With a sudden inspiration thanks to an 80’s RomCom, she’s got a whole new plan.
Evie Tyler’s Day Off by Betsy St. Amant | Inspired by Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
When Evie Tyler plays hooky on her 30th birthday to complete the remaining 9 items on her “30 Before 30” bucket list with her best friend, she never expected her childhood crush—her BFF’s brother—to tag along. Red convertibles, impromptu concerts, and a hilarious comedy of errors collide into one day off Evie will never forget.
Just Like That by Teresa Tysinger | Inspired by Baby Boom
New York City-based influencer Jane Holland is about to reel in the biggest partnership of her career. Life takes an unexpected turn when she’s needed in North Carolina to care for her niece. Will Jane find where she truly fits in her rural hometown—and with Andrew, her all-grown-up crush? Or, will opportunity draw her back to the life she always thought she wanted?
Sure About You by Jaycee Weaver | Inspired by The Sure Thing
Editor, foodie, and 80s movies lover Isley Bradford lives by her trusty planner. Securing her dream job means traveling to a conference with the too-charming coworker she loathes. But with each bump in the road—some literally—he challenges her perceptions and makes her laugh. She’d had her future perfectly planned. Now? She’s not so sure.

Hi Theresa! Received my preordered book this morning. Thanks for your blog with the movie connection. I enjoyed the Rom Com movies of the 1980s. Romancing the Stone is one of my favorites. Love your book birthday movie night giveaway. Fits in with the 1980s when popcorn companies were perfecting the microwave popcorn business. Pop Secret produced by General Mills beat Orville Redenbacker’s. History Channel on Sundays has a series The Food that Built America and one was about popcorn. Living near Indiana I have seen popcorn fields. Congrats to you, Jaycee Weaver, and the new to me authors in this set. Best wishes.

I don’t watch movies, haven’t in years! I went to the drive-in and saw Grease, though it’s not a romcom. I haven’t seen any of the movies the novellas are based on.

Father of the Bride 1 and 2 are hilarious but miss 80s slightly. We actually did one of the lines from the second movie of one senior ticket and one child’s ticket at a movie theatre. Our young adult kids who had bought their own tickets were laughing hysterically when it happened. Our last child came when we were older.
Milla Holt says

I wasn’t big on rom coms in the 80’s (my teen years) but I have watched a few. I had to Google them, so here’s a few I do remember:
Splash!
Romancing the Stone
Jewel of the Nile
Coming to America
I’m sure there’s probably others too :-)

It’s a tough choice to pick ONE favorite; so although I’m tempted to pick The Princess Bride, I’m choosing BIG because innocence teaches jaded and there are so many belly-laughs.
Debra Pruss says
Look Who’s Talking was a cute movie. Congrats on the new book. God bless you.
