We all go through seasons when pretty much everything is going right. Then there are seasons when everything seems to be going wrong. A couple of years ago I felt the Lord tell me that there would be good along with the bad, and I needed to be prepared for it and accept it. That’s kind of a scary thing to hear, but it’s something I’ve never forgotten.
The month of July for me was filled with both. I wish I could say more good than bad, but that’s how it is sometimes. Have you ever noticed when everything seems to be falling down around you that one good thing takes on greater meaning to you?
As I write this I am reminded of Psalm 18:2 If you click on the reference it will take you the verse in multiple versions. I have definitely needed Him to be my rock and shield lately.
I’m ready to leave July in my dust and move forward to August. My husband and I celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary tomorrow. It’s hard to believe we’ve been married for so many years. It really doesn’t feel like that long. There have certainly been rough times, but the good outshines the bad.
My husband and I are not good planners when it comes to celebrating things like our anniversary. I need some ideas. What have you done to celebrate a special occasion?

Our anniversary is at the end of December, and my birthday is near the beginning of January. For the past 10 years or so, we’ve gone to a bed and breakfast sometime between the two for a 2 day getaway to celebrate both.

Hi Kimberly, Happy Anniversary. Great thoughts – thank you for sharing. Rainbows are a good example:)
Hmm, my husband and I are not good planners for anniversary’s etc either. Our wedding anniversary typically falls in the last week of the school year, so we are usually busy with wrapping up things at school. We typically try and get outdoors with the boys- anything other than being inside like we are all week:)
Blessings:)

Hi Kimberly! Happy Anniversary! Hubby and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary in June. We are not big planners. Usually we have a nice dinner at Grand Mere Inn overlooking Lake Michigan. The restaurant has great seafood and we have been celebrating there since we got married in 1973. As a couple we exchange cards and sometimes a small gift. For our 25th anniversary we did a Lake Michigan Dinner Cruise in Chicago and spent the night. That year we weathered the storm because eleven months prior the church parsonage burned to the ground and we lost everything and had to start over and my father had a stroke. Since hubby and I both have summer birthdays, with mine right after Mother’s Day and our anniversary near Father’s Day; we often combine our family celebrations depending on the milestone. This year I celebrated my birthday with a family friend in Chicago Memorial Day weekend. While working, some years we have been apart on our anniversary. In 2012 we celebrated our anniversary in Florida – a vacation with my oldest son, his wife, and our two grandsons. Different seasons of life, different celebrations. Enjoy your day.

We usually don’t celebrate. I make a nice dinner with candles. Congratulations on your Anniversary. I pray you have many more.

That sounds nice, Margaret. :) My husbands birthday was last weekend and our anniversary is this weekend. It’s funny how both of your birthdays are so close to your anniversaries.

Getting outdoors sounds fun! I love walking on wooded trails. :)

Thank you, Renate. I enjoyed reading about the different seasons and how you went with the flow. Your 25th year sounded rough. I’m glad you could take that dinner cruise!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thank you, Lucy. I would consider a candlelit dinner a celebration. :)

Happy Anniversary, Kim! Congrats to you and the hubs! We are celebrating 14 years on the 28th. I can tell you what NOT do, lol! Do not try a brand new recipe for something neither of you have ever had or made….yeah, not a good idea!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Good advice. I was actually considering that. I won’t now. :) I can see how that could spoil things.

Happy anniversary! I’m sorry you’re going through “the wars” but you’re right, it will all be sweeter for the sour.
We have been married for 24 years and go away for an overnight at some nice place or other as long as it’s not above a 2 hour drive. (We have a ranch and children)
We eat, sleep, read, maybe hike or take a nice drive. Nothing special but since we rarely get to be alone, we just enjoy that. We go even the years we are barely speaking to one another, and they do happen! By the time we come home home we are snuggling again.
Enjoy your anniversary, 28 years in this culture is nothing to sneeze at! You deserve a prize!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I forgot to say happy anniversary to you too.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
I love that you and your husband go away even when you are barely speaking. It sounds like you have a very busy life!

Hi Daylyn! Love your honesty. Staying committed is a choice, thru thick and thin. When folks ask how long we have been married, we tease. Hubby says he has been happily married for 23. I have been happily married for 22. People will give us a funny look. 45 years married, it not always happy. Give or take. One year he gets his wishes, another I get mine. It works for us.

Hi Kimberly,
Last year for our 35th anniversary went to Alaska and spent a week just traveling around. We stayed in a really nice vacation home owned by some dear friends so it also was a time of re-connecting and even though the weather didn’t cooperate many of the days we had big plans on, it was still a beautiful time.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
That sounds wonderful! I’m glad you were able to do that.:)

We spend the day together doing something we both enjoy. We’ll usually eat at our favorite steak restaurant and then go flea marketing or see a movie.
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
That sounds like a lot to f fun.:) I might suggest a movie to my husband.
Becky Smith says
Awww! Happy Anniversary! We usually go out to eat, and sometimes find a new restaurant. One of my favorite places is New Theater where we have a fancy buffet and watch a play that always has at least one celebrity in it. Another favorite is going to a bed & breakfast, my favorite being a luxurious one in the middle of a corn field. Sometimes we go to a movie after dinner. Hope you enjoy your day!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
Thank you, Becky. A bed and breakfast in the middle of a corn field sounds unique. How fun!
