What does a romance author and her husband do late at night when their kids are in bed? Why, they sit next to each other on the couch with their laptops out doing work. :) This is in fact what me and my hubby are doing right this minute as I write this post. Except that before my hubby got out his laptop, he was reading a book, which I found to be a very odd but sexy sight.
I bet you’re wondering if he was reading one of my books, but alas, he’s not a romance reader. In fact, he’s not a reader at all. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to see him with a paperback copy of Alistair Begg’s The Hand of God: Finding His Care in All Circumstances, in his hands, slowly turning the pages as he read. I also found my eyes lingering on this man whom I’ve known for the past twenty years. I can honestly say that my husband is more attractive today than the day we first crossed paths. Yes, he (and I) look and feel a lot older and more tired now, but he has grown so much more desirable with each passing year. Namely, he has the following three traits that I’ve come to find sexy in a man. :)
- He pursues God and His will.
- He leads his family with patience and compassion.
- He cares for those around him who are struggling.
I love that he was doing something out of his comfort zone so he can grow closer to the Lord and understand His will better. I even told him how sexy he looked while reading, which prompted him to crack open the book with a serious look on his face and pretend to read again. (Yes, I find his sense of humor attractive, too!) The younger me may have had different, more shallow ideas of what sexiness was, but the me today knows better. This is a good thing because being married to a sexy man helps me write male characters who are sexy, too. :)
I just finished writing the third book in my Spark Brothers series, and I must say that Colin Spark has all the makings of a sexy man. Over the course of the story, he proves time and time again how patient he is with the woman he loves and how much he wants to follow God’s leading. He’s not perfect by any means, but he is a man willing to learn and change and also someone who loves with words and deeds. I can’t wait for you to meet him (and Candy) come January 2019, but for now I’d like to share the cover reveal with you.
I just love the tender way Colin is looking at Candy in this image. That definitely says sexy to me! Tell me, what traits do you find sexy in a man? I look forward to reading your answers in the comments below!
I also want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thanks so much for your support this year. See you in 2019!

Hi Liwen, I laughed when I read this because it is almost identical to what my husband and I are doing right now- except he is reading on his iPad while I am on my laptop!! I find patience sexy, as well as a sense of humour- not taking himself to seriously! I love it when my husband sits with our boys and patiently explains a concept/teaches them something or plays with them. Our oldest has challenges which can make it hard to keep patient with him sometimes, especially when my husband’s health issues are flaring up, so it makes those times more important to savour.
Blessings:)

Your husband sounds a lot like mine! Isn’t it interesting how our perspective changes as we mature? Totally agree with your sexy points ?

One of the things that gets me every time is watching my husband interact with our grandgirls. What can be more attractive than a grown man speaking gibberish to an infant or carrying a toddler on his shoulders or deep in nonsensical conversation with a six-year-old?

Thank you so much for focusing on the good guy! I’m getting really tired of the “bad boy” persona, especially in Christian fiction, where the girl falls for the muscular hunk who’s also a flirt or a jerk, and by the end of the book, we’re just supposed to swoon that they finally get together. Ugh!
My husband is also a good man, a great father, and at his sexiest when he’s following God. That’s why I wrote the hero of my contemporary Christian series like him, Jason, who sounds a lot like your Colin. :) I can’t wait to read it!

Hi Liwen! Delightful post with some excellent posts. I agree with Valerie Comer in watching my husband interact with our 23 month old granddaughter as she bosses him around. “Run Oma run,” while she chases him around our dining room table. Or they play hide and seek or the buzzing game which Oma has to protect her from the monster. Merry Christmas and best wishes.

Liwen,
I can relate! My husband is a programmer/trainer so he’s on his laptop, and I’m on mine. He doesn’t read romance, and usually goes with audio books if he does any reading at all.
He loves Alistair Begg and listens to him.
Thanks for the smile as I look across the couch and see my husband typing away.
Merry Christmas!

Hi Julie! How funny! Our hubbies sound similar (mine’s an IT guy), so he’s usually on his laptop, too. Thanks for reading and commenting! Merry Christmas to you, too!
