I’m trying something new. Starting in September, I’ll be releasing a serialized collection of seven novellas that are titled the Virtues and Valor Series. The plot will begin with the first novella, and it will not conclude until the end of the seventh novella.
My books center around seven women in WWII whose group is nicknamed “The Virtues”. Within the group of seven, there are five spies, a pilot, and a code breaker in Occupied France in 1942. All of their code names are based on a Biblical virtue: Temperance, Hope, Charity, Prudence, Grace, Mercy, and Faith. Every book will be from the perspective of a different “Virtue”, starting with Temperance’s Trial and ending with Flight of Faith. The Virtues are all from different countries, backgrounds, races, and experiences. They are an incredible group.
At the end of every novella, I will tell the true story of a remarkable woman in WWII who inspired my character in that particular book. I LOVED every minute of the research for this series and I cannot wait to tell the stories of these women.
My original intent was for these stories to be just about the women. But, somehow along the course of writing the first book, a romance started to develop and a likely eighth book emerged that I’ll use in the anthology collection of all of the stories as “bonus material”. I guess once a romance author, always a romance author. :) Besides, what kind of action-packed, non-stop thrill ride would a story be if I couldn’t add a romance to it?
I know that the biggest problem people have with serials is that authors tend to not finish them. That’s one of the reasons why I’m not going to publish the first one until all seven of them are complete. (As I type this, I have 6 and a half of them written). The further along in the series I got, the harder it was to write because if I changed or added to one scene in one book, I had to make it consistent in all of the books, since it’s basically the same story told from seven perspectives.
It has been an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G journey with my Virtues. Exhausting, but amazing. I can’t wait to type “the end” in the seventh book and start putting this story out for everyone to enjoy as much as I did. Look for them to begin in September — the first book will be free!
