Change is such a double-edged sword. On one hand, it can be a wonderful thing and lead to new adventures or new experiences. On the other, good changes can be difficult to adjust to. Even small ones:
I’ve always read digital books using the Kindle application on my cell phone. My husband has had an actual Kindle for years, and he’s encouraged me to buy one. I’ve resisted until this summer. I’ve probably read more this year than I have the last several, and found I was getting headaches reading on my phone. Plus, the battery was wearing down quickly. I finally agreed to get a Kindle device.
Let me tell you, I can’t believe it took me so long. Reading on the Kindle is so much nicer than reading books on my phone. It’s easier on my eyes, I can read outside in the sunshine, at night in the dark, and anywhere in between. I also like how I can read for hours and not run down my phone battery.
What about you? What kind of device do you use to read digital books?
If you’re looking for a free book to add to your TBR list, I’ve got one for you! My book, Safe In His Arms, is FREE at any of your favorite book stores. I hope you enjoy this first book in a complete three-book series.
Safe In His Arms: She’s determined to escape her past. He’s looking to build a future . . . with her. Will she open her heart and let him help, or keep on running alone?
This leads me to another change that’s coming up. I’ve decided to focus on writing inspirational romantic suspense. I’m excited about this, and looking forward to the challenges that it will present. But it also means this will be my last post here on Inspy Romance. I will truly miss all of you lovely people. If you enjoy my books, I hope you’ll keep in touch. You can find me on my Facebook page, and you can subscribe to my newsletter as well. I do hope to see you all there. God bless!
best wishes on your new writing venue. I do like light suspense or the LIS type books.
PS I have a kindle and have for around 10 – 12 years. Its one of the older ones with the alphabet on the front but I love it. I also read on the laptop via the kindle app
I love my kindle paper white!
I have a Kindle paperwhite. I still enjoy paper books very much so I don’t read every book on the Kindle, but I do like it for when I read digital books.
Thank you for the best wishes! And that’s awesome you’ve got a Kindle and have had it for so long.! :-D I hope mine lasts a long time as well.
That’s great, Jessica!
Thanks for your response, Ellie! I agree, I still have some authors that I buy paperback books from and enjoy reading them that way.
I have been reading on my iPad but I would like a Kindle paperwhite.
Thanks for the book and good luck with this new change!
I read on my iPAD with Kindle. Thank you for the free book and signed up for your newsletter and following on FB.
That’s awesome, Lori. And it’s always nice to have options.
Thanks, Jessica, I appreciate it!
Thanks, Andrea! <3
I wish you good luck on your new writing endeavors!
I was hesitant about my Kindle when I received it for my birthday years ago. However, now I can’t imagine life without it!! I was so handy to have it when I took Mom to her doctor appointments! No more losing my bookmarks, losing my place in books! I could just carry the Kindle and have more books at fingertips if I managed to finish one book while I was there! Which, I admit, I did more than once! Wishing you the best in your new market! I love romantic suspense, too!! And, already following you everywhere!
Hi Melanie!
I read using the Kindle app on my phone, but am considering switching to a Kindle device. Which one did you get, btw?
Also, I’m really looking forward to your new books! And while I’ll miss your posts here, I’m so glad there are other ways to keep in touch with you 😊 best wishes on this new venture!
I’m on my third kindle, and I love it. My second one still works, and I gave it to my husband. My kindle goes with me everywhere- I always make sure it fits in my purse. The backlit kindle was bad for my sleep, however, because I read in bed way too often! :-)
I have both a Kindle Fire HD 8″ and a Kindle Paperwhite. I use my regular Kindle in place of my laptop when I don’t want to use it (email, Facebook, or reading ebooks, etc) and my Paperwhite for reading ebooks when I go to bed. That one is especially nice at night because it’s lightweight and has a backlight to it.
I do still prefer paperbacks over ebooks, but there are just some I can’t get in physical form. Plus I have Kindle Unlimited so those ones are only in ebook format. There are times when I have both the paperback & ebook of the same book, so I’ll read the physical one during the day and switch to my Paperwhite when I go to bed.
I never thought I’d be a ebook reader! I just love the convenience of holding hundreds of books in my hand & it makes it easier when I go on a trip not to weigh down my luggage with books :-)
I also discovered I already have your book downloaded to my Kindle! I had forgotten, see this is what happens when I have hundreds of ebooks HAHA!
Hi Melanie! Best wishes as you start some new chapters in your life. Love using book analogies. Comes from teaching literature for over 30 years. This retiree and avid reader does most of her reading using the Kindle app on her iPhone or iPad. For the summer months I often use my Kindle Paperwhite, but it has limited storage for books. I have over 800 books in my Kindle account. Will continue keeping in touch via Facebook. I enjoy reading inspirational romance suspense. During this pandemic been expanding my genre. Best wishes. Happy Fall.
Wishing you all the best for future endeavours.
Thank you, Megan!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying your Kindle, Trudy! And isn’t it wonderful how long the battery lasts on those things, too? Thanks for the well wishes, and always glad to see your name on FB, etc – thanks for following. <3
Hi Priscila,
Mine is a Paperwhite, and I absolutely love it! It’s so light, the battery lasts forever, and it’s super easy on the eyes. I highly recommend it.
Thanks for the well wishes. And I agree, I’m glad there are other ways to keep in touch.
Trixi,
I love to have different options, and I’ve been known to go back and forth between a paperback and my Kindle, too. Ha! I also use KU and go through a lot of books when I have the chance to read.
Haha about already having my book downloaded! Hey, having a number of books to read when you can is always good. :-D
Thanks for the well wishes, Renate! Wow, 800 books is fantastic! I can see why you read on your iPhone or iPad for the majority of the time. I hope you enjoy your fall as well! :-D
Thank you, Mary!
Hi Melanie,
Best wishes for your new writing venture. I originally had a Nook. When that died I used a Samsung tablet that was a Nook and a tablet combined. I thought I had lost it when we were traveling on a train in Europe. I was so sad. No books for the rest of the trip. So when we got home I got a Samsung tablet with a Nook and a Kindle app. That tablet got outdated, and my hubby bought me an iPad. I love my iPad and have both a Nook and Kindle app. I read most of my books there. Funny story to follow up on the lost Samsung tablet. A few years later we were traveling in Australia, and my hubby gets into one of the pockets in his backpack and discovers a tablet, not his Kindle. It was the lost tablet. We figured I stuck it in his backpack by mistake when we were hurriedly getting off the train.
I usually use my phone or the computer to read. I am a university student so having books on my cell phone is practical, I do not have to carry extra electronic devices and as I will always be looking at the cell phone I will not miss any notification of room change / class cancellation, etc.
Not counting the perfect camouflage among all my colleagues watching social networks hahaha.
By the way, if you put your Kindle on airplane mode, you conserve even more battery life!! Of course, to download, you have to take it off, but that’s not a problem!
I can totally see that as a problem! I found I read later into the night with my Kindle than I ever did with my phone – haha!
Ooooh, that’s great to know, Trudy, thank you for the tip!
Thanks, Mirrillee!
Oh my goodness, how funny that the Samsung tablet finally turned up again years later. Ha!! Thanks for sharing!! I’m glad you found exactly what you need in your iPad.
That makes total sense, Lilly. And honestly, the idea of carrying around yet another electronic device was one of the main reasons I didn’t want a Kindle for a while there. I’m glad your cell phone works so well for everything you need to do!
You will be missed. Thank you for all your inspiration. Good luck with your new adventure. God bless you.
I’ve been a kindle gal for a decade. I’ve blown through a few. I still read print.
I read on a Kindle Paperwhite and listen to stories on the overdrive app on my phone but I like reading printed books better.
I read mainly on the Kindle app on my iPad. But I love the convenience of books on my phone when I’m out and about waiting somewhere.
All the best for your new genre. I have enjoyed your CCR and look forward to your Christian Romantic Suspense
My first e-reader was a Nook. I loved it, but it only lasted about 3 years before it wouldn’t power on again. By that time, Barnes & Noble had drifted behind in the ebook business and I bought a Kindle. And I never looked back. I’ve gone through 2 and I currently have two, one Paperwhite and one Fire. Now, I do all my reading either on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover format!
Thank you so much, Debra! <3
Thanks for responding, Denise!
Isn’t it wonderful to have choices now? :-D
I appreciate that, Margaret, thank you! <3
That’s awesome, Laurie! I’m glad you enjoy the e-readers so much! :-D
You’re very welcome! I was pleasantly surprised when I found out, so like to pass it on!
Hi, Melanie!
Having read “Safe in His Arms”, I know you’ve got this new direction nailed! Go, go, go!
I do most of my reading via the Kindle app on my computer. Before that, it was the Kindle app on my tablet. I do own a Kindle paper white but the screen is so small and sluggish that it is just frustrating.
Best wishes!
Thanks so much for the encouragement, Lincoln! I appreciate that.
I have to admit that the Kindle paperwhite can be a little slow for me sometimes, too. But I like the battery life and all that. I never thought to read on the Kindle app on my computer! I forget there is one – thanks for the reminder!
I have a Kindle but I still use a Kindle application on my cell phone LOL. Easier to hold I guess at night ;)
We’ll miss you Melanie. I hope you rock the romantic suspense realm and your books fly off the shelves.
Looking forward to reading your new books!
Best of luck on your new writing endeavors . I don’t read ebooks at all, I am not tech savvy at all so I just stick to paperbacks of which I prefer.
It is hard to beat how small a phone is! lol
Thank you, Shannon! <3
Thank you, Dianne!
I appreciate it, Alicia! And nothing wrong with sticking to paperbacks if that’s what you prefer!
