I would be hard-pressed to find a writer who hadn’t spent years reading before he or she put that first sentence to a page. So many writers I know write books today because they fell in love with reading at a young age.
I’m one of those writers, too. One reason? My walk home from school had a serendipitous stop along the way: a public library.
The memories of stopping in to read by some corner window are seared into my head. I can see the flutter of dust dancing on shafts of sunlight, hear the crack of a plastic-covered hardback opening, smell the wood pulp from the pages …
Can you too?
The last few years have been busy, to put it mildly. Overwhelmingly so. And though I’ve written ten books in the past two years, my own reading for pleasure has suffered.
So, though I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, I would love for 2023 to be the year that I sink deeper into my love of reading—for fun.
And that’s where you come in. I do have a TBR list already, books that I’ve been collecting in hopes that I can carve out bigger swaths of time to read. But I’ve also found that some of my favorite reads come from recommendations.
So make me some!
I especially enjoy women’s fiction, romance, and cozy mysteries (no gore, please!). I like to think about the characters and their predicaments, to escape, and I’m very visual, so beautiful settings are a plus. Would love to hear about your favorites from among the InspyRomance bloggers and other authors as well.
Drop me your recommendations below and I’ll put your name into a random drawing for a free eBook of your choice from my shop: JulieCarobini.com (Open to International commenters!). Drawing closes Friday, 1/27 at noon pacific time.
So. What should this beach girl read next?

I just finished another cozy mystery. Its the second in the sweetbriar Inn series by Jan Drexler. The whole series is good. It’s best to read the series in order so you can follow better what’s happening. Although each mystery is new there are recurring characters so knowing the full story helps. (Its not Amish)
Not sure what my next book will be but need something by Wednesday as I have a dr appointment and she has never been on time even when I was the first patient of the day so I expect up to an hour wait so a book to read is always helpful.

Some of the first books I read when I got my Kindle ten years ago, were by Jamie Langston Turner and they are still among my favourites. She taught me about literature, art and poetry in a wonderful weave and command of language. I can still ‘see’ not only the main characters but many of the minor characters and feel the torture of messed up lives that only God can straighten.

I really enjoy the Amanda Flower Amish cosy mysteries, also have just read the Autumn McArthur/Alexa Verde Second Chance Protectors series which I thought was great, they are romantic suspense.
Happy reading!

Hi Julie! I enjoy Hope Callaghan Garden Girls or Cruise Ship Cozy Mysteries because they have older sleuths (Gloria and Millie). Garden Girls is set in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Cruise Ship is in Florida, but there are travel adventures. Also Hope Callaghan today lives in Florida, but still has family in Michigan. I second RuthieH – Autumn McArthur/ Alex Verde Second Chance Protectors is an intriguing series. Best wishes and happy reading.
