Lindi here. Every month I go into the archives of photos to post this picture. And I realize that this month is my 4 year anniversary of being a part of Inspy Romance! I love being a part of this blog-the ladies are so incredible and inspiring. And the readers and writers who visit this blog are awesome!
In the vain of going down memory lane, my publisher has put one of my books on sale until November 15th. The first book of my Richness in Faith Trilogy, Rich in Love, is on sale for .99 cents.
(Just a side note, I cried when I got this cover! I thought it was so beautiful!)
The whole point of the Richness in Faith series is realizing that riches aren’t worldly possessions, but the richness of the love that comes from God.
In Rich in Love, my heroine, Ann, has the possibility to inherit a lot of money. But, there’s always a but isn’t there, she has an assignment to complete first. She has to spend 1 million dollars on herself in 23 days. There are stipulations that she has to follow. Her father, matchmaking from the grave apparently, has added that she can’t hold the debit card. Brett Hamilton, her father’s CPA, has to accompany Ann on her spending spree.
There are other aspects to the story, mission work, troubled teens, a house church next door, and an unexpected step-sister, all which throw Ann’s life into turmoil.
This is one of the most fun stories I’ve ever written. As a girl who doesn’t like to shop, I couldn’t imagine having to be in store after store, there was no online shopping allowed, day after day spending this money.
There are two more books in the series.
Rich in Hope and Rich in Faith
Rich in Hope was featured on the first blog post I posted here on Inspy Romance. #throwback
So, my question for you today is if you had to spend a crazy amount of money on yourself, (there was a life lesson reason her father did this-promise!) what would you buy? It’s kind of weird because I think a lot of people’s first thought is what can I buy for others–or how can I help others.
But these dollars have to be spent on you and only you!
I would love to hear your responses. I’ll draw a winner from the commenters for a copy of Rich in Hope, in honor of my 4 year anniversary here.
And I’ll go first in the what would I buy for myself. I would buy really great running shoes and running clothes. And of course I would buy books, right?
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts, and thank you for hanging out with me for 4 years!

Hi Lindi, I think the cover (s) are beautiful too:) Hmm, one of my friends and I have pondered this, and I have to agree- first thoughts are what to buy for someone else/give the money away. But if I just had to spend money on myself- a renovation of my house to build in a library/book room. Then a new mountain bike and some cross country skis!
Blessings:)

This sounds like a good story and it’s a beautiful cover. I’m adding it to my TBR list! I would buy books (of course), new furniture, and clothes if I could go on a wild spending spree for me.
Elizabeth Maddrey says
I’m going to have to read this, it sounds fun and reminds me of a movie I’ve always enjoyed (Brewster’s Millions). Would paying off my house count as buying myself something? Cause I’d want to do that. And probably a new car as my current has plenty of life in it, but like me, is getting up there in years :) If they have to be less practical things, there are some Seiffen nutcrackers I drool over every Christmas that I’d love to add to my collection :)
Paula Marie says
Wowie, I am a fellow anti-shopper! I would rather never have to go into a store again to buy anything …thank you Amazon….lol!
I would have a hard time spending money on only me. I am with Liz, does paying off my house count?
And yes to BOOKS!!
Lindi P says
Hi Wemble—Of course we love the reno-library idea. And I’d like a mountain bike, too! I’ve been wanting to bike for a long time. I have a 20 year old one that I ride around every now and then when my grandson is over.
Lindi P says
Ellie—books. Of course! I love that idea. I think my girl does look for furniture. :) And clothes, too. But there’s a twist on the clothes–at least one part of it. Thanks for visiting the blog and putting RIL on your TBR pile. :)
Lindi P says
Elizabeth–In the book there’s a 10k limit on one item. (Except she is allowed to buy 1 car.) And she doesn’t have a house. But I think it’s a great idea of how to spend $ on yourself. I would do the same. I never saw Brewster’s Millions, but people have told me about it.
And nutcrackers–that would be a perfect way to spend $ on yourself. And they’re so beautiful!!!

Clothes, Books, Adult Tricycle and food.

Paula Marie—A big THANK YOU for sharing our Christmas to remember on your FB page. That was awesome. :) And yes, Amazon has become my go to when I can. I tried to buy a book for my son for his birthday from a bookstore here in town, a chain bookstore, and they didn’t have it in stock. So I had to order online. I was in a bit of a time crunch as well. I have a local indie bookstore that I love and support every chance I get. So hey, I might go in there and buy them out. That would help them AND I would get amazing books to read.

I’d love to do some more renovating of my house – and those purchases at Home Depot start to add up! I love shopping on Amazon – but also love going into stores and buying there so we probably do a pretty even mix. I know my husband would not appreciate me buying a ton of books so I wouldn’t be able to do that. That would be quite a dilemma to spend a million on myself!
Kimberly Rose Johnson says
A car, a house, and a European vacation. :)
Kelley Blair says
I would buy a beach house. My soul sings at the beach!!
Lila Diller says
I love these covers, too! What a fun, interesting idea for a matchmaker beyond the grave! I love to shop, so finding ways to spend money on myself wouldn’t be an issue. It would be the guilt that I couldn’t spend any on anyone else, either. I would stock up on books, oil paints and canvases and other supplies, scrapbook albums, movies, shoes, prepared meals, plus some things I have been needing but haven’t been able to afford yet, like new glasses, dental work, and hearing aids.
Valerie Comer says
Aw, you spoiled my fun when you capped any one item at $10K! There goes my new house, darn. Let’s see, a sailboat for hubby. I mean for me. Well, for him, but it would count because I’d enjoy it, too, right? I’d take a car, since ours is five years old (practically brand new, really!) Can I take multiple vacations or is there a limit of only one of each “type” of thing? All these rules. I just want a house. ;)
Lindi P says
Kim–Keeping it real! I love it. #food
Lindi P says
Hi Kris—Ah–maybe you could sneak a couple of books into the mix. :) And I love your comment “It would be quite a dilemma to spend a million on myself.” Exactly the thoughts of my heroine, Ann.
Lindi P says
Yes!!! Vacations for sure.
Lindi P says
An amazing idea!! Let’s do it!
Lindi P says
Okay–we’ll let the needs slip in there. :) All those are important. Movies…that’s a great idea. and Shoes. Of course the #SHOES! (Especially since in the book Ann’s shoe breaks….you’ll have to read.:))
Lindi P says
There were a lot of rules. :) Had to keep that girl with that boy, you know? There is an interesting scene in a jewelry store. Hey, no one has mentioned jewelry! I love the vacations idea of course. :)
Renate says
Hi Lindi and Happy Anniversary! Glad to have you at Inspy Romance. The story reminds of the movie The Ultimate Gift. While I have always been frugal and since our 1997 house fire, where I had to shop until I dropped to replace furniture, appliances, dishes, clothes for a family of five for four seasons; I am not fond of shopping. I prefer to support independent local store owners, rather than chain stores or Amazon. So if I had to spend a million dollars in 23 days – first I would hire a housekeeper and gardener. Approaching 70 years old, those are tasks hubby and I hate doing. Also my own masseuse. Purchase a gym membership with my own personal trainer to help me with exercises to strengthen my back and core. While I love my house, the main bath needs to be remodeled, the walls painted, and the hardwood floors refurbished. Then a six month trip to Europe on the Queen Elizabeth the Second to visit my relatives. Hubby and I often have this discussion. Thanks for the interesting question. Added your book to my to read pile. Best wishes.
Lindi P says
Renate–I LOVE the way you think. Housekeepers, a masseuse! Perfect—oh, and the gym membership. My hubby and I are having that discussion now. :) I also love that you and your hubby have this conversation. I’m sure there were many more ideas you didn’t mention. Thanks for always visiting Inspy!!
Valerie Comer says
I’m not much for jewelry, personally. Who needs something expensive and easy to lose?!?! Plus, gardening/farm work doesn’t go well with it.
Lindi P says
I agree–but I do like the jewelry my hubby gives me. Not so expensive, but sentimental value. He shops on the websites where stolen merch doesn’t get claimed so they sell it.
Be still my heart, right?
Sherri G says
I’d do just about anything to avoid going into a store unless it’s a quilt shop. I could shop for fabric and quilting supplies for quite a while. I could always buy clothes since mine are ancient (because I hate to shop!) and jewelry that I’d never wear. Our couches could be replaced. Ugh! Just thinking about all that shopping stresses me out!
Lindi P says
Sherri–I’m with you! It stresses me out as well. But it is fun to shop for something you’re passionate about–like quilting. I could probably shop for office supplies for days!! Pretty post it notes–and colored pens…don’t even get me started. :)
Paula Marie says
Aw, Thank you! I thoroughly enjoyed all the stories! I love that – buy a book store! YES
Janet Estridge says
I volunteer in the church library and have for almost 40 years.
Of course, I would buy books, not only for me to enjoy, but others as well.
Thanks for entering me in your giveaway.
Lindi P says
Janet! Thanks for stopping by. I love the idea of stocking books for all to read. That’s awesome you’ve been volunteering for so many years. Im sure you’ve read so many great books.
Melynda says
I’d really want to buy a new minivan, but that’d be over the $10k cap. I’d probably renovate my kitchen. It’s totally fine now, but if I HAD to spend a ton of money, I’d love new countertops, backsplash, fridge, and maybe stovetop. I’d also buy clothes, shoes, and books.
Lindi P says
Melynda–you have no idea how much I want a kitchen reno on my countertops and sink. I love my cabinets, stove and frig. They’re all old though..but hey, they work. And you said the magic word–shoes! Thanks for stopping by Inspy today.
Jessica B. says
Wow! I think that would be a very overwhelming task but I would start with purses and luggage, because I’ve basically never met a bag I didn’t like and then I would have a reason to buy them. Then I would probably need to travel in order to use them. LOL. I would also hit up a craft supply store and buy some of the scrapbooking tools and cute embellishments that I’m normally too cheap to buy.
Shannon Taylor Vannatter says
A very pretty cover and sounds like a fun story.
Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds says
Those adorable ankle boots, warm sweaters, peppermint coffee, and books.
Arletta says
It is so difficult for me to spend money on myself. I’ve had to be careful with money all of my life so to now have to spend a lot on myself will just feel wrong. How much are we talking about? If there’s enough, I’d love to spend a month in Europe. Or I’d build a sunroom onto my house with a bunch of bookshelves and a super comfy chair. Or I’d spend the money on a housecleaner to come weekly and dust since I hate dusting.
Natalya Lakhno says
Lindi, glad you are a part of this blog! The covers of books are so tender and beautiful!
I don’t think I can ever spend money on myself…children and husband, church, etc…
SARAH TAYLOR says
Thank you for such beautiful covers of your books I always buy for my children and grandchildren! love your blog post
Ruth Ann Lingwall says
I would buy a viola as I played for a year or two during high school in addition to the violin (but not at the same moment). The mellow sound was entrancing. Books and bookshelves are always on my shopping list too.
