Happy Friday! I hope you are all having a great summer. I can’t believe how fast it has gone. My youngest leaves soon to return to college and both of my boys begin classes before the month is over. In Oregon our schools generally begin the day after labor day and the public colleges and universities start well into September. Both of my boys attend universities out of state.
To be honest I’ve had a difficult time coming up with something romance book related to post about this month, but an idea came to me the other night as I was laying in bed trying to figure out what I was going to post. I hope you will find this fun and that everyone will take part. Iv’e put zero thought into the plot, so no judgment from me. Don’t be intimidated.
Today I’m going to give a story start and you get to add to it in the comments. Kind of like the games we did as kids, but what we called them escapes me at the moment. Each comment will be the next line in the story, so be sure to follow the comments from the top down. You can add a single sentence or up to five, but no more than five. I might add a line here and there. When the day is over we’ll have a story. It might be silly, but that’s okay. I don’t know about you, but I can alway use a good laugh. :)
Here’s the set up. It’s a contemporary romance that takes place in a beach town–imagine a small town from your favorite book, the exact location doesn’t matter in this case. You get to decide the rest. I’ll do the really hard part and get us started now–at least that’s the hard part of me.:)

Lelia pulled open her apartment door and gasped. “Jeff? What are you doing here.” She hadn’t seen her college friend since graduation five years ago.
“We have a problem,” Jeff said.
Okay–now it’s your turn. Take it away and have fun. I can’t wait to see the twists and turns. I’ll add the ending this evening.

Lelia ran her fingers through her tousled auburn hair. “It’s been five years, Jeff. Why now?”
She studied the man’s face, the man she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with. “Please leave…before you wake up my daughter.”
Jeff’s shoulders slumped. “Daughter?’
Lelia paled, “Jeff…I didn’t think I would see you again. Not after all that happened…you have to understand that”. Moving through the open doorway, Jeff paced around the small living area. His agitation showed in the nervous fingers tapping his thighs. “Lelia, please close the door. This…is she?…this changes everything”.
” uhm . . . Leila . . . Oh this is so difficult! You remember that play where we fake-wedded each other? Well . . . It seems it was . . . “
… more real than I thought. Why didn’t you tell me we have a daughter together “
I didn’t know where to find you , you left so suddenly!
“Not by choice. I had no time to tell you the truth.”
“So why did you leave and why no email, text, or phone call? I was devastate going through this alone. You knew where to find me!” Leila sobbed angerly.
“I couldn’t. Something horrible happened and I put into witness protection. The person I testified against died last week, so I was given the choice to come back.” He reached for her. “I wanted to take you with me, but I couldn’t ask you to do that for me.
“Didn’t you think that should have been my choice?”
“Everyone knew we were a couple. Didn’t you think your danger might extend to me? Didn’t you THINK?”
“You just disappeared. What was I supposed to think? I was pregnant, sick, alone, and heartbroken.”
I can take anyone’s tears but Lelia’s. Cautiously he wraps his arms around Lelia as she sobs, soaking the front of his shirt. Where to start? “Lelia, can we sit and I will explain everything, please?”

Lelia spoke through tears and said while sobbing ” Can we discuss this later after I find someone to watch my daughter. She will be waking from her nap shortly. I don’t want her to over hear what we might have to say to each other”
“I want to see her.”
Lelia’s head jerked up. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.” Her eyes drifted off to the side and she wiped the palms of her hands onto her jeans.
” Mommy”, Both heads turned as a little girl with blonde, messy hair came into the living room dragging a tattered t shirt.
” Whoa,is that my old t shirt”
But don’t you think I have a right to see my own daughter that I didn’t even know about? And what about my parents? They have a granddaughter!

“Who’s he, Mommy?”
“A friend I have not seen for a very long time. Come on sweetie, let’s get you cleaned up and get you a snack.” Lelia took her daughter to her room. Glancing over her shoulder, she said “we will have to talk later.”
Jeff settled in on the couch. After all the trouble he’d gone through, now that he was with Lelia again (and a daughter! Who might be his!) there was no way he was going to leave now. He’d wait.
He had all the time in the world. The end.
